Chucky Thompson dead: Hip hop producer who created hit songs for Mary J. Blige dies at 53
Legendary hip hop producer Chucky Thompson has died at the age of 53. The hitmaker reportedly died after battling Covid, according to AllHipHop.com.
Chucky had an incredible career in the music industry, from co-producing the majority of Mary J. Blige’s My Life album to working on the Notorious B.I.G.’s hit Big Poppa.
He was a member of P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment’s ‘Hitmen’ team of producers during the 1990s.
Rapper Diddy was one of the first to take to social media to pay tribute to Chucky.
He wrote: “I’ve been in shock most of the day. Chucky Thompson was not just someone that I made Mary J Blige’s My Life with and a part of the legendary Hitmen, he was also one of the greatest humans that I’ve ever met”.

He said: “My first real session with Bad Boy was with [producer] Easy Mo Bee. Puff asked if I wanted to go to the studio and hang out with him.
“I’d never met him or anything. I showed up at the session; he had a guitar there, and I just started playing along with what Easy Mo Bee was doing.
“He heard it and immediately wanted to record it. That became the guitar parts on Ready to Die. That was always the energy.”
Before his death, Chucky worked with Diddy again and produced tracks on his upcoming album, Off The Grid Volume 1.
The rapper’s album is scheduled for release on September 24 and will mark his first album in 11 years.
Chucky’s publicist Tamar Juda confirmed the sad news of his death in a statement.
She told Okayplayer: “It is with a very heavy heart that I can confirm the passing of Chucky Thompson…
“To anyone in his orbit, you know how generous he was with his energy, creativity and love. Both the music industry, and the world has lost a titan.”
