Chris Sutton has singled out Kieran Tierney as a good option to become Arsenal’s next permanent club captain.

Arsenal are in search of a new skipper after they stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the role earlier this month following a ‘disciplinary breach.’

Aubameyang has since been exiled from the first-team and is reportedly willing to leave the club in the January transfer window.

There are several candidates to replace the Gabon international as captain, with the likes of Tierney, Martin Odegaard, Alexandre Lacazette, and Gabriel Magalhaes among the names being considered.

Former Premier League striker Sutton believes that the Gunners could do far worse than appointing Tierney as their new captain.

‘I’ve always followed him closely because of his time up at Celtic, getting into the team at a young age,’ he told Radio 5 Live.

‘The thing I like about Tierney, I don’t think he’s the finished article yet, but he is so, so committed in every game.

‘That’s why a lot of Arsenal fans would give him the captaincy. Robbie (Savage) said the same this evening.

‘That is because of that. It is fair to say that Arsenal have lacked leaders over the years and that’s one of the issues Mikel Arteta has had to deal with.’

Arsenal currently find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table, with their next scheduled match set to take place against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on January 1.
