MANILA, Philippines—PBA coach Chris Gavina will take his talents to Taiwan as the new head tactician of Taichung Suns in the Taiwanese T1 league.

Gavina, a former member of the Rain or Shine coaching staff, officially left the team after the Elastopainters’ loss against San Miguel Beer in the 2022 PBA Commissioners’ Cup.

He was with Rain or Shine for four years, serving as head coach since March of last year. His stint ended when veteran coach Yeng Guiao returned to his old team.

“Rain or Shine accepts assistant coach Chris Gavina’s resignation in order to become [the] head coach of the Taichung Suns in the Taiwanese T1 League,” the team said in a statement.

The 43-year-old mentor will handle a Suns team that reached the finals of the 2021-22 season of the T1 league.

He will also be managing former PBA player Nino Canaleta and former Meralco import Tony Bishop.
