Stephen Colbert confirmed the news on The Late Show, enlisting former Sexiest Man Alive, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, to tell his friend Chris about the honor.
‘That means a lot coming from a former Sexiest Man Alive,’ Chris said before Dwayne pointed out: ‘I never give the title up.’
He then insisted: ‘We’re sharing it.’
Accepting the title, the Captain America star quipped: ‘My mom will be so happy. She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.’
Turns out, the star was right.
Boston channel WHDH TV 7NEWS reached out to the star’s mom, Lisa Evans, to get her reaction to his latest accolade, and she was quick to express her pride.
‘My reaction was, ‘yeah, of course, it’s about time!”‘ she told the outlet, before confirming her son’s comments about the title ensuring he will be teased by friends.
‘They will absolutely give him grief about it, but they’re very funny,’ she added.
She said The Marvel hero is ‘always amazed at his own success’, and what others think of him.
Evans, 41, takes the baton from 2021 winner Paul Rudd and follows in the footsteps of heartthrobs such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Tom Cruise.
Last year, when the honor fell to Ant-Man star Paul, he accepted it with open arms.
‘I do have an awareness, enough to know that when people hear that I’d be picked for this, they would say, “What?”,’ he said at the time.
‘This is not false humility. There are so many people that should get this before me.’
