Chloe viewers baffled by confusing finale: ‘I’ve obviously missed something’
Acclaimed BBC drama series Chloe has captivated viewers from the first episode, but tonight’s finale has had somewhat of a rocky reaction.
It tells the story of Erin’s character, Becky, who becomes entangled in a complicated web of lies that is entirely of her own making.
Over the past month, viewers have been treated to a rollercoaster psychological thriller with more twists and turns than, well… a rollercoaster.
But despite the strong start, Monday’s sixth and final episode has left many viewers with more questions than answers.
Fans flocked to Twitter to voice their opinion on the finale, and most echoed the same sentiment: Just what on Earth is going on here?
One viewer shared a reaction image with the words: ‘Is that IT?’ and admitted they ‘still have lots of questions.’
‘Is there a #BBC Action line to explain the end of #Chloe?’ one viewer wrote, adding: ‘Asking for 3 million telly friends.’
They went on to say: ‘I liked it but not happy with that ending!’
One vocally disappointed fan lamented ‘another really promising drama, really well acted, with a real s*** ending’.
‘What was the conclusion?’ another confused viewer said. ‘I’ve obviously missed something & along the way lost six hours of my life.’
Another, more measured reaction came from one viewer who said: ‘Good start. But I lost it in the middle. Still don’t really know what was going on by final episode.’
It wasn’t all negative however – some fans were blown away by the series and the ending, with one fan writing that Chloe is ‘one of the most original, compelling, creative series in a very long time. Just superb.’
They added that star Erin ‘needs to win awards for this. Loved every second.’
Another admitted they weren’t ‘too sure when I first watched it but stuck by it, and so glad I did’.
‘Wha a great psychological drama this is turned into (sic).’
And while the show may not have given all – or in some cases, any – solid answers, this may be exactly the point.
One viewer spoke about the shock ending and argued that (Spoilers ahead!) ‘it does not matter if she jumped or was pushed.
‘Chloe either jumped driven to it by a controlling narcissistic husband; or as I suspect was pushed by Elliot.’
They added: ‘Great drama and Erin Doherty was brilliant.’
Chloe is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer.
