Chloe Madeley celebrates James Haskell’s birthday after ‘sea cow’ comments
Chloe Madeley has paid tribute to her ‘intelligent and funny’ husband James Haskell on his 37th birthday after he was criticised for called her a ‘huge sea cow’.
The former rugby player and I’m A Celebrity star referred to his pregnant partner, 34, as a ‘huge sea cow’ during their luxury getaway in the Maldives, sparking huge criticism from fans.
However Chloe has clearly not taken the comments to heart, and has described her husband as ‘committed and tenacious, intelligent and funny’ in her latest post, which saw them pack on the PDA while on holiday.
The birthday message read: ‘Happy birthday @jameshaskell. Thank you for making me laugh every day.
‘For always taking me with you on all your weird, random, (sometimes truly wonderful) adventures. For always trying to be better at everything you do, including husbanding.
‘You’re committed and tenacious, intelligent and funny, and I can’t wait to watch you hold our baby girl. I love you [sic]’.
Earlier this week, James made a joke about his wife being a ‘huge sea cow’ on his Instagram account, which garnered a torrent of criticism.
Sharing an image of his pregnant wife in a bikini while swimming in the crystal blue sea, he wrote: ‘Bloody hell you go snorkelling and the first thing you see is a huge sea cow doing a mating display!
‘She appears to think I’m her partner.
‘I didn’t know whether to harpoon it or feed it.’
Chloe didn’t seem too offended by the quip, although she said that it wasn’t the only unflattering comparison James had thrown her way during the trip.
In response she joked: ‘This whole trip he’s been comparing me to big fat sea creatures, at this point I’m becoming immune to it. Pizza helps.’
James didn’t leave it there, and followed up with another post that commented on his pregnant wife’s body.
Sharing a picture of Chloe hiding behind a pole, with her blossoming baby bump on full display, he wrote: ‘Hide and seek is not @madeleychloe game.’
Chloe, daughter of daytime TV stars Richard Madeley, has opened up about the two-year struggle that she underwent to get pregnant, revealing she was ‘scared it wouldn’t happen’.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: ‘I find it quite amusing when people assume that all women, everywhere, want to be a mother, because it’s really complicated.’
After months of not using contraception, she explained that she was ‘nervous’ when she still wasn’t pregnant last spring.
‘We picked up the pace in terms of trying and that nervousness turned into utter fear,’ she recalled.
‘Like, “Hang on, I don’t want this option taken away from me.” I woke up in the middle of the night and it hit me like a ton of bricks. And that pushed me into making a decision and that I absolutely wanted to have a family.’
Following a series of tests, it was confirmed that the couple wouldn’t need to undergo IVF, something that Chloe said she felt ‘very lucky’ about.
The couple’s romantic getaway comes just days after they revealed they have bought their first marital home.
Sharing the good news on her Instagram account, Chloe wrote: ‘We have our first marital home!
‘6 years after moving to the midlands for the Wasps relocation, James’ subsequent Saints “finisher” and a few lockdowns later I’m finally going home to my city, my friends and my family.
‘6 years. I genuinely can’t put into words this feeling. FINALLY going home.’
