Chhattisgarh’s Ankita Pandey honoured with National Youth Award 2023 for social work – Times of India
Raipur: Assistant Professor Ankita Pandey Shukla from Bilaspur, the judicial capital of Chhattisgarh, has earned the distinction of being the only woman from the state to be honored with National Youth Award 2023 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports during a function at Hubli-Dharwad in Karnataka on the occasion of International Youth Day.
Ankita told TOI that she is fortunate to have received the country’s biggest youth award for her social work. “I have taken up the task of de-addiction, children falling prey to sexual crimes and drugs, evil practices like child marriage and making women aware about benefits of using sanitary napkin and pursuing slum children to go to school. I will lead the society towards progress. I have been working independently on these subjects for the last six years and now people from different sectors and organisations started recognizing my work and extending their support,” said Ankita, who is serving as an assistant professor at DLS College in Bilaspur.
Ankita said that she had decided to take up the task of social work during her college days. She is also creating awareness about child helpline number 1098. Children involved in begging are also being handed over to Childline by giving proper advice and counseling by Ankita who believes that it is necessary to make children aware of sexual crime and drug addiction from childhood so that they can avoid the harm caused by sexual crime and drug addiction.
Ankita said that the children of rural areas remain deprived of many facilities unlike urban areas, because of which they are unaware of childhood harassment and other crimes happening to them. “I have decided to pay special attention towards rural children,” she said.
Ankita and her team of Marmik Chetna are not only limited to prevent crime against children, but they are also working to make the poor, helpless and disabled people self-reliant and connect them with the mainstream. Apart from this, the entire team has also taken up the responsibility of arranging food and clothes for the poor.
Last year, he went to 50 schools continuously and conducted awareness campaigns on sensitive topics among more than 5000 people.
Ankita has received many awards for her service during the Corona period. She has also been honoured with the Nari Ratna Award by Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai honoured Ankita in the presence of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur.
