Cheryl cried on Sunday as she was applauded by the audience following her penultimate performance as Jenny in 2:22 A Ghost Story.

The former Girls Aloud crooner has starred in the spooky production since January and has racked up rave reviews while treading the boards in the West End over the last few months.

The mum-of-one wiped away tears as she was cheered by the crowd and made sure to bow and wave before leaving the stage.

Cheryl stars opposite EastEnders star Jake Wood in the play and according to MailOnline was comforted by co-stars this weekend after shedding tears.

The star plays Jenny in the popular play, a role previously played by Lily Allen and Laura Whitmore.

Written by Danny Robins and directed by Matthew Dunster, 2:22 follows Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted, while her husband Sam is not having any of it.

The couple argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and her new partner Ben, as belief and scepticism clash.

Cheryl announced in December that she’d be taking on the role of Jenny, writing on Instagram at the time: ‘Hey!!! .. I am SO excited to be starring in the west end thriller @222aghoststory!

‘I will be playing the role of Jenny from January – April! I went to see the show with a previous cast and LOVED IT ! It is a totally new and exciting experience for me so if you’re looking for a fun night out & some entertainment in your new year tickets are available now….whenever you’re ready.’

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Jaime Winstone would be taking over the role of Jenny from May.

The likes of Sophia Bush, Clifford Samuel and Ricky Champ have also been announced as 2:22’s new cast members.

From May 14, the production will move from the Lyric Theatre to its next home at the Apollo Theatre.
