Cherry Creek School District cancels classes as “extreme” cold approaches Colorado
The Cherry Creek School District will close its schools because of the “extreme cold temperatures” that are expected to hit the state starting Wednesday evening.
The district’s full closure on Thursday means all classes, school activities, and before- and after-school daycare programs are canceled.
Daycare programs will resume Friday, but classes won’t return until Jan. 10 because of winter break, the district tweeted.
The district isn’t the only one to cancel classes because of the incoming storm. 27J Schools, based in Brighton, will close Thursday and Friday as well.
St. Vrain Valley School District said it is moving classes online on Thursday and buildings will be closed to in-person learning. High-schoolers will take their final exams online as well, the district said.
The Douglas County School District will also close its buildings Thursday. Most students already will be on winter break, but the closure will cancel before- and after-school care and any school events held that day, according to the district.
Temperatures are expected to plunge below zero late Wednesday, bringing several inches of snow and wind chills as low as -50 in some parts of Colorado, according to the National Weather Service.
