Chelsea’s Todd Boehly has just three weeks to satisfy Mauricio Pochettino wish

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly hoping that Todd Boehly will have sold the majority of the Chelsea players that want to move on this summer before his squad travels to the United States to kickstart their pre-season tour. The Blues are in the midst of a major clearout, though their inflated squad means that there are still players eagerly awaiting an exit.

Graham Potter made it no secret that he was struggling with the large Chelsea squad last season, which ultimately cost him his job. Thus, Pochettino is keen to avoid the same fate as his predecessor by prioritising outgoings over incomings over the summer.

Despite Nicolas Jackson being set to arrive at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are looking to raise funds by offloading players rather than being focused on signing new players. A significant core of players have already departed, though there are still several pondering where their future lies.

According to The Telegraph, Pochettino would like the majority of Chelsea’s sales before the squad travel to America on July 17. The ex-Spurs boss is aware that there are players wanting to leave the club and he would like their exits prioritised before the squad embark on the opening stages of their pre-season training, leaving Boehly with three weeks to grant the new boss his wish.

Edouard Mendy, Hakim Ziyech and Kalidou Koulibaly have all been sold for reasonable fees to Saudi Arabian sides. They will follow in the footsteps of N’Golo Kante, who joined Al-Ittihad as a free agent. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also attracting interest from the Middle East, though offers from within Europe are expected to come soon too.

The Blues have also reduced the size of their squad by reportedly agreeing to terminate Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract so that he can join Inter Milan, with Joao Felix also returned to Atletico Madrid on loan due to the arrival of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.
