Chelsea’s Todd Boehly could make four more signings for Pochettino in preseason

Both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were sacked during the troubled period with Frank Lampard returning as interim boss until the end of a dismal 10 months and now it has been left to former Argentina international Pochettino to reverse the club’s fortunes.

Squad investment has certainly not been an issue, to put it mildly, with embryotic owner Todd Boehly splashing a whopping £553m on 17 new players since he took control of the club a little over a year ago.

But regardless of the big names that have arrived at Stamford Bridge, the new manager will want his own players and that process is already underway. Christopher Nkunku has arrived from RB Leipzig and he has already been joined by the Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson, forming a new-look forward line.

But according to reports, another four players could be set to make the switch to Stamford Bridge this month as the Pochettino revolution gathers pace.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that rising Brazilian star Angelo with travel to England this week to complete medical tests before signing a six-year deal with the West London outfit. His current club Santos are set to receive a £12.8m transfer fee as part of the deal.

Romano is not done with Chelsea, however, and also believes that they are now more likely to land Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo than Arsenal this summer. The Blues were in for the Ecuador international during the January transfer window but were eventually priced out of a deal. Caicedo looked set to join Arsenal and even went public with his desire to do so, but ultimately the Seagulls were not willing to sell him in the middle of the season and the move collapsed.

The Gunners have since turned their attention to West Ham captain Declan Rice and stand on the brink of a club-record £105m deal to land the England midfielder.

When asked about Caicedo on The Debrief podcast, Romano said: “At the moment it is only Chelsea. They have an agreement almost ready on the personal terms, not yet agreed between clubs but Brighton and Chelsea are in direct conversations for Moises Caicedo. So, this week is going to be important to understand about the price tag, it’s still not 100 per cent clear.

“We know that Brighton are always tough in negotiations, they are not a normal club. So, it’s not always easy to go there and put in the money to sign the player, You always need some time and some negotiation Chelsea hope to get the deal done around £70 to £80 million.

“It’s also important to mention that the player in February, when he signed a new deal, he got some guarantees from Roberto De Zerbi to be allowed to leave the club in the summer because he really wanted that move to Arsenal in January and now with Chelsea, everything is really close on the player’s side, but not yet between the clubs.”

Elsewhere, The Mail reports that Pochettino is said to be looking at a £25m deal for the highly-rated Flamengo midfielder Matheus Franca. Newcastle United had a £13.5m offer rejected for the Brazil U20 forward in January, with Flamengo’s president Marco Braz telling Vene Casagrande: “We do not put Matheus Franca up for sale. He is not for sale. We are not interested in negotiating for Matheus Franca at this moment.”

Chelsea will be hoping that the position on Franca has now softened so a deal can be done.

Another player very much in the capital club’s sights is Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga. Seen as a possible replacement for the departing Mason Mount, Veiga has emerged as one of the best young midfielders in Europe and according to The Guardian, has a £34.4m release clause in his contract. Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG and Barcelona are all named as interested parties.
