Chelsea’s Boehly given two-month window to sign Dembele at half price
Chelsea have been gifted another chance to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele for a cut-price fee, though they only have a two-month window to take advantage. The France international extended his contract at the Camp Nou over the summer amid interest from the Blues and Paris Saint-Germain.
After a shaky start to the season that has seen Thomas Tuchel depart and Graham Potter arrive, the Blues are expected to spend big in the January transfer window to provide the latter with players who fit his mould. Todd Boehly is keen to back his new manager and is already known to be willing to spend big.
Recruiting a forward was a priority over the summer but a true marquee signing never arrived. Raheem Sterling joined from Manchester City and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang put pen to paper on deadline day, though there is the feeling that Chelsea still lack quality in the final third.
Dembele was a target over the summer and the Blues could be tempted to reignite their interest in the winger at the end of the season, with Marca reporting that there is a two-month window where he will have a £43million release clause.

Chelsea are already working on a deal to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window, with the player already completing his medical in preparation. Thus, if Boehly is able to invest in his squad and reap the rewards in the second half of the campaign, Dembele could be tempted to jump ship and be a part of a different project.
It remains to be seen whether Potter decides to offload some of his current stars to make way for new arrivals. The former Brighton boss also has targets of his own, with the 47-year-old keen to reunite with Leandro Trossard.
