Clare Egan, Admiral’s Head of Motor, said: “There are things that drivers can do to help keep insurance costs down, such as considering the type of car that they drive and how they drive it.
“Getting points on your licence or a driving conviction will increase the price you pay.
“And while it might be tempting to try and change your personal details to get a better price, drivers do need to be honest and make sure we have the correct information for them otherwise their cover could be affected.”
Less experienced drivers will also face higher fees for insurance as they’re at more risk of an accident.

Prices will vary from customer to customer

“These don’t work in isolation but are assessed together to work out the likelihood of the customer making a claim in future. As a result, prices will vary from customer to customer.
“Age is one of the pricing factors and it can be expensive for a young person to get on the road as our index shows.
“The reason younger drivers pay more for their insurance is because they are more likely to have an accident than older drivers and the accidents they have are more expensive too.
“One of the most effective methods for lowering insurance costs for young drivers is telematics or black box insurance.
“These small devices measure how you drive and reward safe drivers with discounted insurance.”
