Cheapest Easter staycation is a ‘vibrant city’ – full list

New research from Pikl Insurance has found the cheapest UK destination for a staycation for a last-minute Easter holiday. The most affordable spot was a “vibrant city” in Northern England.

The team compared the average price of an Airbnb stay for a family of four in April to find the most affordable break.

Newcastle was the cheapest choice for a staycation at just £155 per night on average for an Airbnb during the Easter break.

A spokesperson said: “Newcastle is certain to welcome an influx of staycationers come April, and there’s no surprise that it has come out on top of our roundup, with an average nightly Airbnb fee of £155.

“The city is a real all-rounder, offering something for everyone with an exciting array of activities and scenery to explore.

“Enjoy an immersive science lesson at the Centre for Life, or explore some abstract art at the Baltic gallery. Visiting the Angel of The North is a must on your break, and it’ll give you the perfect snapshot of your visit to this vibrant city.”

Newcastle’s top rated attraction on Tripadvisor is the Victoria Tunnel,a fully preserved 19th century waggonway and WW2 air raid shelter.

The city’s atmospheric Quayside is another must see and has plenty of pedestrian areas to admire riverside views.

A visit to St James’ Park is a must for any football fans who can take a tour of the ground and see the dressing room and media suite.

Pembrokeshire in Wales was the second most affordable destination for an Easter staycation, at £168 per night.

The spokesperson said: “If you’re looking for an Easter break that’ll leave you feeling refreshed, head to Pembrokeshire.

“There’s plenty to explore in this scenic county and the Welsh countryside acts as the perfect detox for city life.”

Tourists willing to brave the cold weather could try their hand at paddleboarding or kayaking and the area is also a top wildlife spotting hub.

Another Welsh region, Anglesey, rounded off the top three with an average nightly price of £171 on Airbnb.

The spokesperson said: “The Menai Suspension Bridge is arguably the most photographed location on the island, so ensure that your itinerary allows for a quick photograph pitstop.

“There’s an unsuspecting air about Anglesey, and during your stay, you’ll wander through the many wonders of the island.”

The Lake District and Snowdonia were the next cheapest spots while the Isle of Skye and Isle of Wight were the most expensive.
