Charlie Chaplin’s actress daughter Josephine Chaplin dies aged 74
Charlie Chaplin’s daughter Josephine Chaplin has died at the age of 74, it has been reported.
Chaplin died on July 13 in Paris, according to a death notice supplied by her children Charly, Julien, Arthur published in French publication Le Figaro.
The announcement did not state a cause of death but said a funeral would be taking place in the French capital.
Chaplin began her acting career in one of her father’s last films Limelight in 1952, appearing as the character child in the opening scene.
Her next appearance was in A Countess from Hong Kong, a romantic comedy scored, written and directed by the silent film legend.
Chaplin then scored a role in Canterbury Tales, directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, in 1972 and the same year starred in Escape to the Sun.
Her other film credits include Jack the Ripper, The Bay Boy and Docteur Françoise Gailland, which also featured Isabelle Huppert.
On TV, Chaplin appeared in various shows during the 70s and 80s before her last appearance in film Downtown Heat in 1994.
Chaplin was one of he father’s 11 children, while her mother Oona O’Neill was his fourth wife.
Chaplin was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who became a worldwide icon through his screen persona the Tramp.
Considered one of the film industry’s most important figures, his career spanned more than 75 years.
He wrote, directed, produced, edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films, with The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times, and The Great Dictator often ranked on lists of the greatest movies of all time.
Chaplin died in 1977 at the age of 88 of natural causes at his home in Vevey, Switzerland
