Center Parcs blasted again for closing pools after Queen’s funeral U-turn
CENTER Parcs has come under fire again by fuming holidaymakers as pools and restaurants on its sites will close for the Queen’s funeral.
The holiday company was forced to make a huge U-turn yesterday over plans to completely shut down its park on Monday after being flooded by complaints.
Guests were originally told they must leave the site by 10am and not return until Tuesday.
But despite bosses backtracking and announcing parks would stay open, the firm has been slammed again after telling guests facilities will still be closed.
The holiday village chain said tourists not due to depart on Monday will be able to stay put and “walk around the village” – but will not be able to use restaurants and pools.
A spokesman for the park said: “Like many businesses we have taken the decision to close all our UK villages on Monday.
“This decision was taken as a mark of respect and to allow as many of our colleagues as possible to be part of this historic moment.
“We have contacted all the guests due to arrive on Monday 19th September and offered them a number of different options. Our villages will be open to welcome guests on Tuesday 20th September.
“The vast majority of our guests are either due to arrive or depart on Monday.
“We have however, reviewed our position regarding the very small number of guests who are not due to depart on Monday and we will be allowing them to stay on our villages rather than having to leave and return on Tuesday.
“The villages will still remain closed on Monday and we will be offering a discount for the lack of facilities available on that day.”
Their decision to still keep facilities closed has sparked backlash from holidaymakers.
One said on Twitter: “So let me get this straight: @CenterParcsUK were originally going to kick innocent families out of their resorts for one day over the funeral, but because that’s a stupid idea they’re now… imprisoning people in their rooms?!”
Another wrote: “Ridiculous decision.”
A third commented: “Not only an inconvenience, but completely unnecessary.”
A state funeral has been planned for the Queen on September 19, and King Charles has declared the day a bank holiday.
