Celine Dion battling ‘sad’ mystery illness

Celine Dion has been forced to cancel a slew of upcoming performances, with her sister describing the situation as “sad.”

Celine Dion has cancelled her upcoming tour amid a mystery health battle, she announced on social media over the weekend.

“I was really hoping I’d be good to go by now, but I suppose I just have to be more patient and follow the regimen my doctors are prescribing,” Dion said in a Twitter message posted Saturday, announcing the cancellation of the Courage World Tour, Fox News reports.

The My Heart Will Go On hit maker, who has cited “severe and persistent muscle spasms” as behind her reason for cancelling shows, went on to thank fans for their support.

“I’ve been very touched by all the words of encouragement that everyone’s been sending to me on social media.

“I feel your love and support and it means the world to me,” she said.

Dion initially completed 52 shows of the tour by March 2020 before the coronavirus spread across the globe, and she intended to resume shows on March 9, 2022, prior to this announcement.

“There’s a lot of organising and preparation that goes into our shows, and so we have to make decisions today which will affect the plans two months down the road,” Dion continued in the Saturday statement.

“I’ll be so glad to get back to full health, as well as all of us getting past this pandemic, and I can’t wait to be back on stage again.”

Dion, who turns 54 this year, recently received treatment for “severe and persistent muscle spasms which are preventing her from performing, and her recovery is taking longer than she hoped,” according to the statement.

Her sister, Claudette Dion, previously spoke to French magazine, Voici, about the singer’s health.

“What’s happening to her is sad,” she said.

“But it’s not serious, otherwise she would have told me. Celine always confides in me and asks for advice when something is wrong. I know she’s in good spirits.”

The legendary singer postponed her Las Vegas residency in October 2021 as a result of the spasms, saying at the time that she was “heartbroken”.

Dion is still scheduled to participate in the European leg of the tour, which is scheduled to begin May 25, in Birmingham, England.
