Celebrity Bake Off viewers can’t deal with Gemma Collins’ showstopper pastry

Towie icon Gemma Collins had viewers in hysterics after her shopping-themed showstopper failed to impress.

During tonight’s episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off: Stand Up To Cancer, the TV personality, AJ Odudu, Tim Key and Jessica Hynes put their culinary creativity to the test.

When she wasn’t gushing over judge Paul Hollywood, the GC, 42, provided the entertainment as she struggled to get grips with it all.

Paul and co-judge Prue Leith challenged the celebrities to create a choux-shape showstopper (try saying that three times in a row) and Gemma declared that she will get ‘that apron if it kills me’.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her creation she said: ‘My earliest memory is going down to Woolworths. I’ll never forget one day there were these fluffy mules on the shelf, and it was the best day of my life.’

While her previous work didn’t catch the judges’ eyes, she was determined to pull out all the stops, but fans couldn’t help but mock the star’s bake.

One person wrote: ‘Crying what has GC made.’

‘Oh my God Gemma that just looks like dog vomit.’

Ouch!

During a debrief with Prue and hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, Paul said: ‘I thought Gemma’s was appalling but a good effort.’

Unsurprisingly, Gemma wasn’t crowned Star Baker tonight after Jessica won the coveted title.

Revealing why she wanted to sign up to the annual special, Gemma exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘Obviously Stand Up To Cancer is a great cause but I’m a huge fan of Paul Hollywood, so when I got the call I was like, “I need to see Paul with my own eyeballs”.

‘I always go into everything with such energy and pizzazz but when it came to the choux pastry it went horribly wrong. Paul Hollywood, bless him, was really complimentary because he saw how much enthusiasm I had and Prue Leith was beautiful, Matt Lucas was hilarious and… who’s the other one?

‘Noel had never met anyone quite like me, so it was hilarious.’

The first two episodes of Celebrity Great British Bake Off is available to stream on All4 now, and the next episode airs on Sunday, April 2 at 7.40pm.
