CCTV video of boy attacking girl with knife shared with false communal spin – Alt News

CCTV footage of a boy stabbing a young girl on the street is viral on social media. It has been claimed that the attacker was Asraf Ali who stabbed an eighth-grade female student with a knife after she resisted his advances. The video is circulating with the hashtag ‘#लव_जिहाद’ (#Love_jihad).

Twitter handle ‘@VishalRuhelaIND’ made the same claim while sharing the clip. It received more than 2,000 views as of this writing. (Archive link)

False communal angle

Alt News performed a keyword search which led us to a few news reports covering the incident. On December 22, Aaj Tak reported that a boy attacked an eighth standard female student with a knife in Gopalganj, Bihar. The incident took place in Pratappur village under the jurisdiction of Manjhagarh police station.

The report added that the police investigation found that the accused would often harass the victim. She even complained to his family members, but he did not stop. When the girl was returning from school one day with her friends, the boy attacked her with a knife. The girl’s friends ran away but bystanders rushed to the spot after hearing her scream and took her to a hospital.

A TV9 Hindi report identified the accused as Guddan, son of Asraf Ali, a resident of Pratappur village. It is worth noting that the viral message states the name of the attacker is Asraf Ali. However, the individual behind the stabbing is actually Ali’s son.

We also reached out to the Manjhagarh police for more details on the case. An officer informed us that there was no communal angle to the incident and both the victim and accused were from the same religion. The accused fled from the scene of the crime but was subsequently found and arrested by the police.

The video has, thus, been shared with a false communal spin. Both the victim and the perpetrator hail from the same community.
