Kochi: CBSE Trivandrum region comprising schools in Kerala and Lakshadweep retained its top position nationally as Class X and XII board examination results 2023 were announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday.
Trivandrum region secured 99.91% pass in both Class X and XII board exams this year compared to 99.68% and 98.83% pass in Class X and Class XII respectively in 2022. Bengaluru and Chennai regions secured second and third positions respectively in both Class X and XI this time. While Bengaluru secured 99.18% and 98.64% pass in Class X and XII respectively, Chennai secured 99.14% and 97.40% pass in Class X and XII respectively.
Meanwhile, the national overall pass percentages for Class X and XII are 93.12 and 87.33. In Class X, out of 2165805 candidates who appeared for the exam nationally, 2016779 candidates passed. Out of the 1660511 candidates, 1450174 candidates passed in Class XII nationally.
Like the previous year, CBSE has not announced the merit list of students to avoid unhealthy competition among the students. Similarly, the board has not awarded first, second or third divisions to the students.
In Class X, as many as 63035 candidates including 31206 boys and 31829 girls from schools in Kerala appeared for the exam. Out of them 62978 candidates – 31162 boys and 31816 girls passed the exam. The pass percentage of boys and girls are 99.86 and 99.96 respectively, while the total pass percentage is 99.91 in Kerala.
In Lakshadweep, 249 candidates including 122 boys and 127 girls appeared for the exam. Out of them 246 candidates -120 boys and 126 girls – passed the Class X exam. The pass percentage of boys and girls are 98.36 and 99.21 respectively, while the total pass percentage of Lakshadweep is 98.80.
In Class XII, 40560 candidates -19798 boys and 20761 girls- appeared for the exam in Kerala. Out of them, 40525 students -19775 boys and 20750 girls- passed. The pass percentages for boys and girls are 99.88 and 99.44 respectively, while the total pass percentage of Kerala in Class XII is 99.91.
In Lakshadweep, all the 24 candidates including 13 boys and 11 girls, who appeared for the Class XII exam passed. Lakshadweep has 100% pass in Class XII exam.
Last year, the results were announced in July only and the delay was a concern for the students, especially Class X, as they feared they could not apply for Plus One admission in state schools. CBSE has earlier assured completion of the examinations and declaration of results on time for the 2022-23 academic year.
The CBSE will conduct the supplementary examinations (which was earlier called compartment examination) in July and the dates will be announced later. The board also confirmed that the final examinations for Class X and XII for the upcoming academic year are from February 15, 2024.
