Liverpool kept their slim hopes of a Champions League spot alive with a sixth straight win on Saturday, beating Brentford 1-0 at Anfield.

A Mohamed Salah goal was the difference between the Reds and the Bees and the win puts them just one point and one place behind Manchester United in fourth.

The Red Devils have two games in hand on Liverpool, so they remain firmly in the driving seat, while Brighton may be seventh and seven points behind the Reds, but they have three games in hand on them.

Their European future is not in their own hands and club legend Jamie Carragher says there is no point even discussing whether Liverpool could make the Champions League until Manchester United go to West Ham on Sunday.

‘Talk of Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League can only be taken seriously if West Ham beat Manchester United tomorrow,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.

‘At not one stage this season have Liverpool been in the top four – which is unbelievable.’

Klopp is also well aware that the odds are stacked against his side, but he has reminded his rivals that the pressure is on them to win their games in hand.

‘Six games ago nobody would have thought we would be here. We cannot do more than win football games,’ he told the BBC.

Klopp added, speaking to Sky Sports: ‘If Manchester United win their games in hand, then they are seven points away and it is pretty much done. We know that.

‘Brighton, if they win all their games in hand which is absolutely possible they are above us. It’s an interesting period. We have to make sure we keep the teams behind us, behind us because they are coming. Nothing is decided and that’s good.’

Klopp’s side will be favourites in all three of their remaining games as they go to Leicester, host Aston Villa and then travel to Southampton in their last game of the season.
