Carol Vorderman slams Jeremy Clarkson’s ‘shameful’ Meghan Markle rant
The former Top Gear presenter has been condemned this week after making ‘disgusting’ comments about the Duchess of Sussex, in which he said he wishes to see people ‘throw lumps of excrement at her.’
Writing for The Sun, the Clarkson’s Farm star referenced the likes of Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, and Rose West, a serial killer, claiming his hatred for Meghan leaves him ‘unable to sleep.’
The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host said that he felt ‘sorry’ for Prince Harry, who he dubbed a ‘glove puppet’, claiming that the Prince is ‘controlled by his wife.‘
‘At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement at her,’ he shockingly wrote.
The 62-year-old then alleged that ‘everyone who’s my age thinks the same way’.
Responding to the hate-filled rant, former Countdown presenter Carol, 61, was quick to make it clear that she does not agree.
Sharing the newspaper clipping of the column, Carol wrote on Twitter: ‘NO Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it ok to write this stuff about any woman.
‘And absolutely NO to “everyone who’s my age thinks the same”. No no no.
‘We absolutely do NOT think the same. Listen to the noise Jeremy. The crowds are chanting “shame on YOU”.’
Plenty of Carol’s followers were on the same page as her, with Emily Atack replying to say she was ‘horrified’.
Carol tweeted back to her, revealing her own experiences with harrassment.
‘Someone tried to incite sexual violence against me recently, inc thousands of online messages, went on for over a year, harassing my children too. Others would then copy that behaviour. We found HER and she signed a civil “restraining order” in the end. This stuff is horrendous.’
After stating that such comments are not acceptable ‘about any person’, Carol received responses from fans who echoed her sentiments.
‘Abhorrent!!!! How was this even published?????’, wrote one.
‘This is shocking. Hopefully action will be taken to apologise for publishing this hate speech, hold Jeremy Clarkson accountable for this misogynistic dog whistling on Meghan Markle. His mental health may also need some assessment because this odious spewing of hate is unhealthy’, tweeted another.
Other public figures who have slammed the Grand Tour star’s ‘vile’ remarks include politicians, such as MP Jacqui Smith.
‘I’m your age @JeremyClarkson and I couldn’t disagree more with you. Why do you have to be so horrible? I can’t believe it’s good for you and it certainly isn’t good for the rest of us,’ she tweeted.
The TV star is yet to address the backlash.
