Carlton’s vaccine holdout revealed

Defender Liam Jones has been revealed as the holdout in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine, and his career is now at a crossroads should he remain unvaccinated.

Earlier today, the club remained tight-lipped over the player who had not yet had a single dose of the vaccine.

“I hope whoever the player is has a change of heart,” Victorian sports minister Martin Pakula said earlier today.

“But I think, should he not, the AFL has made their decision very clear.”

The AFL has mandated that all of its players receive the vaccine or risk having their contract torn up, or be placed on an inactive list on a smaller salary.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood said his club had been encouraged by the men and women who had gotten the jab.

“As a club, we understand the AFL’s stance and we’ll just join in with that.”

Jones must be vaccinated by the time he reports back to the club on December 6. Any unvaccinated player will be moved to the club’s inactive list and could have their contract terminated.

The 30-year-old was drafted by the Western Bulldogs with the 32nd pick in 2008, playing for six seasons with the club before being traded to Carlton in 2015.
