MANILA, Philippines—Carlos Edriel Yulo didn’t let the judges doubt his ability to retain the floor exercise title at the ongoing Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Singapore on Saturday night.

Yulo executed his routine at the OCBC Arena to near perfection and compiled 15.300 points to clinch the gold in beating eventual silver medalist Dmitry Patanin of Kazakhstan (14.366) and China’s Su Weide, who got the bronze with 14.330 points.

The Filipino gymnastics star also ruled the event last year in the Doha, Qatar version of the Asian championships. Yulo was the world champion in 2018.

The 23-year-old fireball claimed a silver medal in the men’s all-around on Friday to seize a spot in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium three months from now.

Yulo is likewise seeking podium finishes in the parallel bars, vault, rings and horizontal bars after making it to the finals.

In women’s artistic gymnastics, Aleah Finnegan took the bronze medal in the vault with 13.483 points as she became the first lady gymnast from the Philippines to reach the podium in the continental tournament.
