Cannes 2023 Fashion Report: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and others who impressed with their ensembles

With the gradual passage of time, there has been a seamless blend of how films meet fashion. Cannes 2023 saw a plethora of Indian stars making their debut this year at the French Riviera. Namely Manushi Chhillar, Mrunal Thakur, Sara Ali Khan, Anushka Sharma and Mouni Roy made heads turn with their eclectic choices. A Cannes regular – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan retained her starry aura while Diana Penty returned with an impressive array of outfits. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

She’s no stranger to the Cannes red carpet and has always managed to grab eyeballs with her experimental picks. For her interviews, she donned a shimmering green midi dress studded with sequin work. The outfit came with exaggerated cape sleeves and a flowy silhouette. Letting the sparkle of her look take over centre-stage, she completed her look with high heels, minimal accessories and a soft-glam beauty look. Her red carpet looks this year saw her step out in an opulent hooded gown. The ensemble was replete with detailed aluminium spread, minute embellishments and a corset-like silhouette that gave off the impression of a cinched waistline, the elaborate black bow and floor-sweeping train being the highlight. The silver and black gown had studded crystals across its bodice that were taken from the Cannes Capsule collection. Anushka Sharma

When it comes to keeping it classic and elegant, you can hardly miss out on Anushka Sharma striking the chord every time! The actress who made her debut at Cannes this year got fashion critics rooting for her as she stepped out in an off-shoulder gown in a gorgeous cream hue. The detailing of the outfit featured elaborate floral ruffles around the shoulder line, cascading down into a bodycon silhouette that was studded with pristine white embellishments. Looking like a dream on her svelte frame, Anushka rounded off the look with a sleek bun and a minimal beauty look. She went uber-chic for the after-party in a pastel pink balloon top paired with black sequinned pants. The attached floor-sweeping trail from the back was the cherry on top as it added a dramatic flair to the outfit. Sara Ali Khan

Bringing the glory of Indian tradition to the forefront, Sara Ali Khan stunned in an embellished ivory lehenga, matching blouse and dupatta that came with a train for her Cannes red-carpet debut. Her next look was a Modern – Indian fusion that featured a bralette blouse paired with a saree-style skirt with an exaggerated flowy silhouette towards the hemline. The monochrome look in the off-white chamois satin fabric and accompanying beads and crystal embellishments were as royal as it gets. 

She went all-out glam with her next outfit which was a strapless black gown with gold embellishments on the upper bodice. As it was an evening look she went for bold smokey eyes and opted for a heart-shaped clutch bag for accessories. Her final look had her sport a silver tassel dress with shimmer elements and a halter-neck silhouette. Complementing silver eyeshadow and a muted makeup base rounded off her final showcase effortlessly.

Aditi Rao Hydari

The dreamy-eyes actress made her second appearance at Cannes this year and she radiated princess vibes in all the looks picked for her. Her first look was in an aqua-blue gown. It featured a flared silhouette with an asymmetrical cut and 3D elements. She completed her look with diamond earrings and a nude-based glam look. Channelling her inner Belle, her next look was a sight for the sore eyes as she strutted onto the red carpet in a sunny yellow ruffle gown. The strapless attire featured a plunging square neckline and a corseted waistline flowing into a tiered ruffled skirt bottom decked with floral elements and a high-low hemline. Metallic golden earrings, wavy tresses, pink lips and smokey eyes were her glam picks for the second look.

Manushi Chhillar

The young diva strode the red carpet in a dreamy white fairytale gown. The corseted upper bodice had a lace fabric that flowed down into a ruffled bottom in tulle fabric. She completed her look with a statement green- emerald necklace, waterfall hairdo and a soft glam look. Next, she stepped out in a classic black bodycon number. Seems like the off-shoulder silhouette was quite the hit in her wardrobe as her second look sported a similar cut along with the cinched waistline.

Esha Gupta

Bringing in the ongoing trend of a thigh-high slit, Esha Gupta’s first look was a satin white gown with a risque slit. The plunging gown had 3D floral detailing around the high collar. It indeed looked angelic along with her messy bun and a chic glam look. Next, she opted for a black bodycon number with a triangular cut around the bustline. The rhinestone detailing around the underbust was striking. 

She rounded off the look with soft makeup, smokey eyes and a messy bun. She kept it simple with her next two looks as she went out and about at the French Riviera, one was a Tiffany blue dress with subtle batwing sleeves, and the other one was a body-hugging black number, as classic as it gets. 

She then went for an easy-breezy blue printed dress followed by a corporate chic avatar in a grey pantsuit. Carrying on with her array of monochrome looks, she next strode in a pink sweater paired with matching leather pants, bringing her style file for Cannes 2023 to a close.

Diana Penty

The actress went for a casual yet chic pre-Cannes look in a white ruffled top with a pair of blue denim. For her red-carpet look, she stunned in a modern-Indian golden lehenga with sequins and studded colourful stones all across the bodice. Statement studs, brown smokey eyes and a muted makeup look made the ensemble stand out. She went high on glam with her third look which featured a black tassel dress.

Classic winged liners, a hair knot and minimal studs completed her look. Needless to say, her fourth look was an instant hit with netizens for its alluring appeal. She walked the red carpet again in a stylish black cropped jacket paired with matching pants. Her toned midriff looked all the more stunning in this modern-tuxedo-inspired look. Hopping onto her next glam look, it was a sheer embellished gown with a bodycon fit and mutton sleeves. 

The outfit further featured a ruffled hemline and beaded encrustations replete with floral motifs. Keeping it dreamy, she had pearl accessories in her curated hairstyle and opted for a soft-glam beauty base. Her final look was a golden-yellow-hued textured dress in a midi-length. Mouni Roy

The diva started her Cannes 2023 lookbook in a sunshine yellow gown. With a big bow on the back and a floor-sweeping train, her princess moment was an ace. She complimented it with sleek hair, a gemstone necklace and minimal makeup. Going for French glamour at the French Riviera, her next was a black bodycon gown with a mermaid-core silhouette. The fitted bodice featured a detailed hemline finish and a plunging neckline. 

Channelling the golden girl vibe, her third look saw her wear a studded white tube top with a golden embroidery base which was paired with a matching satin skirt with ruffle detailing and an exaggerated train. A low pony hairdo and subtle makeup were her glam choices. Her next look was all easy-breezy in a blue feather dress. A pop of colour for the lips, loose hair and black glares completed her look. Her best was indeed the elaborate white feathered gown. It came with a silver corseted fit with sequins for the top flowing into the voluminous skirt finish for the bottom.

Mrunal Thakur

Making sure it’s a debut to remember, Mrunal Thakur’s Pre-Cannes look saw her dial up the heat in a black one-piece swimsuit layered with a sequined blazer and sheer leggings. It was a classic mix of a bodycon fit with oversized clothing. The sultry charm of the outfit was met with an equally glamorous makeup look and she did not disappoint. Taking the saree look out for a spin, she went modern-chic in a shimmering number. 

The signature saree had exquisite detailing of crystals, beadwork and faux feather upping the oomph factor. A matching blouse and complementing jewellery made netizens fall in love with the get-up. Making it a streak of fashion hits, her next gave off the vibe of a modern-vintage goddess. Her hooded couture look featured a full-sleeved blouse and an asymmetrical skirt, the matching hooded long veil adding dramatic flair to the look. Her final look was a white cut-out gown. A feathered train and ruffle detailing on the front made it a perfect red-carpet pick with all its extravaganza.
