Camilo, Juan Luis Guerra lead Latin Grammys nominations

Camilo can celebrate his “Vida de Rico” as the nominations leader of this year’s Latin Grammys.

Born Camilo Echeverry Correa, the Colombian singer-songwriter is up for 10 awards including album of the year for “Mis Manos” and dual nods in the record of the year (“Vida de Rico,” “Amén”) and song of the year (“Vida de Rico,” “Dios Así Lo Quiso”) categories. 

Camilo has five songs reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart and is among the most-followed Latin musicians on TikTok (with 23.5 million, he’s amassed more than Karol G’s 22 million, J Balvin’s 19.3 million and Jennifer Lopez’s 14 million).   

Juan Luis Guerra has the second most nominations, with six, including album of the year for “Privé” and record of the year for “Dios Así Lo Quiso.” This is the most nominations Guerra has received in a single year and brings his career total to 40.

C. Tangana, Nicolás Ramírez and Julio Reyes Cópelo round out the leaderboard with five each. Bad Bunny, who took home a whopping 10 awards at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, has four nominations, including album of the year for “El Último Tour Del Mundo.”

The best new artist category has nearly a dozen nominees including Giulia Be, María Becerra, Zoe Gotusso and Paloma Mami.

The Latin Recording Academy received a record-breaking 20,000-plus submissions for the 22nd Latin Grammys. There are 53 categories in the peer-selected awards. The eligibility period ran June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021.

“Our Academy strives to support the Latin music community through inclusive awards that spotlight the most current representation of excellence in the field,” said academy CEO Manuel Abud in a statement. The nominees are “a gifted and diverse group of artists whose global music has broken down cultural barriers around the world,” he continued.

Winners of the Latin Grammys will be presented on Nov. 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main telecast will air live on Univision at 8 p.m. ET.
