Cameroon football age scandal deepens as another ELEVEN players fail test

CAMEROON under-17s are in a race against time to field a team for their regional AFCON qualifiers this month after more players failed age tests.

The tests were ordered by ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o and president of the country’s governing body, Fecafoot.

The youngsters are hoping to play in the UNIFFAC tournament which gets underway later this month.

But the Indomitable Lions find themselves in a concerning situation.

Cameroonian FA confirmed this week that 21 players have already been deemed too old to play.

A statement read: “21 players out of the 30 currently training have failed at the results of the MRI tests.

“They were immediately removed from the group. Steps were
immediately taken for their replacement.

“This action is the result of strict instructions given by the President of FECAFOOT [Cameroonian Football Federation] acting under the mandate of the executive committee.

“FECAFOOT urges all parties, in part”

And the African country have suffered a further blow to their hopes of participating after another 11 players failed tests.

According to BBC Sport, boss Jean Pierre Fiala is now finding it tough in his search to make up the numbers.

Cameroon are set to play four matches between 12 and 24 January against Congo, Chad, DR Congo and Central African Republic.

The top two teams will progress to the Nations Cup which takes place in Algeria in April.
