Cameron Norrie won the biggest title of his career in Indian Wells. The world No 26 came from a set and a break down to defeat Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6 6-4 6-1 for the biggest title of his career, a Masters 1000. He had already secured the British No 1 ranking with his impressive run in the Californian desert, overtaking Dan Evans, and has now also achieved a feat Andy Murray never could – winning the BNP Paribas Open.
Norrie got off to a strong start, looking as dominant as he did in his previous rounds as he broke Basilashvili in the third game of the match.
The new British No 1 was unable to sustain his level though, as he lost five games in a row after going 3-1 up to hand Basilashvili the opening set.
The 26-year-old recovered will to open the second set with a hold of serve but it was a reversal of fortunes in the second as the Georgian broke in the third game.
Refusing to go away, Norrie stood his ground and broke back immediately.

Norrie served out the match to complete a feat that even former world No 1 Murray couldn’t – winning the title in Indian Wells.
It’s the latest achievement in the Brit’s breakthrough season, which had already seen him make five finals – winning the title in Los Cabos – before winning his sixth final in the Californian desert.
The newly-crowned champion started the year ranked down at world No 71 and will now make his top 20 debut, as well as claiming the British No 1 spot from Dan Evans.
He also moves to 10th in the race to the year-end ATP Finals, with current 8th place Rafael Nadal already ruled out for the season, meaning Norrie is just 125 points away from a qualification spot in the current standings.
