Busy schedule is a challenge says Arsenal boss Eidevall

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says it’s a “challenge” to play a lot of games following their 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.

The Gunners broke the WSL record when making it 13 consecutive wins with their London derby success at Meadow Park.

And Swede Eidevall said: “It is a challenge when you play a lot of games, especially when you are coming to the end of a block like this.

“I think you can see that in the way we played, we made mistakes we don’t usually make on the ball with how we position ourselves, we looked slow and we lost focus.

“With the goal we conceded you could see a prime example of that, I didn’t recognise us as a team there. That part annoys me because you always want to be better than that but there is a reason why we looked like that.”

Dagny Brynjarsdottir put the visitors ahead after Steph Catley’s poor back pass, before Kim Little came off with an injury to be replaced by Jordan Nobbs, who equalised with virtually her first touch.

On Nobbs playing her in the number eight role Eidevall added: “You could see when we built up play it was so important to get the close connection between the two sixes and in front of their midfield.

“We needed to change the point of attack, for example, when Noelle Maritz got the ball she needed a short option inside and I couldn’t think of a better player than Jordan Nobbs for that.

“I knew she would be there constantly asking for the ball, making short passes and making the extra pass. That was exactly what we needed and she gave us that and a bit more and I am very happy for her.

“It’s important for the team that she performed the way she did. Potentially, I think it’s why we won the game.”

Catley set up the second Arsenal goal for Stina Blackstenius with a superb ball into the box and describing the Australian’s delivery, Eidevall said: “You need both, you need good delivery and you need good targets you can’t only have one of them so she’s 50 per cent of the reason.”

Frida Maanum added a third with a header from Katie McCabe’s cross and speaking of the reaction to going 1-0 behind, Eidevall added: “For us to concede can never be the end of the world. It’s not a great goal for us to concede but what I am interested to see is the reaction.

“How do we look from a mentality perspective and how do we respond? That I was really happy with.”

Arsenal are in back action on Sunday at Leicester City with a 2pm kick-off, before title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United face off.
