Bulldogs sack Elliott after latest incident

The Canterbury Bulldogs have given under-fire star Adam Elliott the boot, with his contract torn up as the fallout from his toilet tryst controversy worsens.

The club claimed the move was “in the best interests of both parties” after “discussion in recent days”, with his sudden exit “effective immediately”.

“The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Adam Elliott have agreed to part ways, effective immediately,” the Bulldogs said in a statement released on Friday night during Melbourne’s finals clash with Manly.

The Bulldogs’ decision comes as Elliott was sanctioned last month by the NRL for a toilet tryst at a Gold Coast restaurant with NRLW star Millie Boyle. Elliott was fined $10,000 and told to complete education and training “regarding the obligations of NRL and NRLW players in public”.

It was the latest controversy for the one-club player who has been involved in several alcohol-related off-field controversies during his nearly 100-game NRL career.

“Adam and the Bulldogs have decided it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways,” Bulldogs Chief Executive, Aaron Warburton, said in the statement.

“The club is committed to supporting Adam during this time. We wish Adam all the best for the future.”

The 26-year-old was signed with the Bulldogs until the end of 2023 having re-signed just last year.

But now Canterbury have ended his contract – claiming the move was mutual – the club have freed up more than an estimated $400,000 from their salary cap.
