Broncos star in hot water over alarming ref abuse

Brisbane Broncos star Reece Walsh is facing a worrying wait from the match review committee after appearing to swear at referee Chris Butler.

Walsh overran in support of Selwyn Cobbo off a kick return late in his side’s loss to the Titans with a penalty given for an obstruction.

A voice could be heard hurling an expletive-laden rant at the referee after the penalty, which appeared to come from Walsh.

Brisbane was then marched 10 metres for dissent.

Butler replied to the rant by saying: “Go again, you go to the (sin bin).”

Tanah Boyd then converted a penalty goal to seal a 18-12 victory.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters said he was “extremely disappointed” with his side’s performance and attitude.

“We haven’t earned the right as a team or a club to come here and put that performance on,” he said.

Walters’ frustrations continued when asked about his side’s inability to fix its form in the second half.

“It’s not who we’ve been, and I don’t like that team that played today. It’s not who we are,” he said.
