Britney Spears’ alleged assault being taken as ‘serious as a heart attack’
The alleged attack on Britney Spears is reportedly now a criminal investigation with police said to be taking the incident very seriously.
According to sources, law enforcement is taking the alleged incident “as serious as a heart attack,” TMZ reported.
A source went on to claim to the publication, the case is “likely” to be referred to the District Attorney to be reviewed.
The pop star, 41, reportedly spoke to the police yesterday (July 6) to discuss what happened.
Spears’ security team has also reportedly filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department accusing Smith of battery.
Images have also emerged in which Spears was pictured shortly before the alleged incident as she approached basketball player Victor Wembanyama at the Catch restaurant at the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas.
Sportsman Wembanyama, 19, was seen walking with security personnel Damian Smith, whom Spears alleged ‘backhanded’ her in the face.
One eyewitness claimed Spears approached Wembanyama and said in a British accent: “Excuse me sir, excuse me, sir.”
The eyewitness claimed after the alleged assault, the singer then screamed: “This is f*****g America!”
It is thought the alleged incident happened when Spears tried to approach the player and ask for a photo with him, a source told Us Weekly.
In a lengthy Instagram post to her 42million fans, Spears alleged she was “backhanded in the face”, “nearly knocking” her down to the floor and “[knocking] my glasses off my face”.
After the alleged attack, Smith reportedly approached Spears’ table to offer her an apology.
He is said to have told Spears: “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.”
According to sources, Smith was also unaware it was Spears when she was trying to speak to Wembanyama and thought she was just another fan.
Wembanyama also addressed the alleged incident and claimed she tried to grab him from behind.
Spears hit back at this version of events, claiming she simply “tapped him on the shoulder”.
Express.co.uk has approached representatives for Britney Spears and Victor Wembanyama for comment on this story.
