The centre is full of high-tech flight simulators and was showcased on tonight’s Channel 5 show Inside British Airways: 24/7.

The massive machines give pilots the opportunity to trial flying life-like planes, testing their ability to handle worst-case scenarios.

The British Airways flight training is based at London Heathrow’s Global Learning Academy.

During tonight’s show it was explained that every six months pilots are sent to the “Sim Hall”.

The system is designed to “keep pilots on top of the very latest aviation technology and their skills sharp.”

Captain Phil Ticehurst explained: “Ongoing training and assessment takes place every six months for our pilots.

“The whole point is technology is so reliable nowadays that pilots don’t get the exposure they may have historically had to dealing with unusual situations.

“So every six months they are brought into the simulations and they are challenged with unusual situations so they can maintain and hone their flying skills.”

There are 16 “state-of-the-art” aircraft simulators on offer for pilots to jump into the cockpit and test themselves.
