The Brit Awards returned with a bang and a plethora of musical talent, but who ended up going home with the coveted gong.

Mo Gilligan hosted this year’s festivities after it was confirmed he would be replacing comedian Jack Whitehall after four years, with radio presenters Maya Jama and Clara Amfo who helped co-host throughout the evening.

The 2022 awards ceremony was the first to scrap male and female gender categories.

Ed Sheeran opened the show with his hit single Bad Habits, and rock band Bring Me The Horizon joined in for a cheeky collab.

Anne-Marie later took to the stage, and although she tripped on her way down she carried on like the true pro that she is.

Taking home the honourable album of the year was Adele with her critically-acclaimed 30.

Adele was the first superstar to receive an award, as her hit single Easy On Me triumphed in the song of the year category.

American singer Olivia Rodrigo accepted her award for best international song. She told the crowd: ‘Last year at the Brits was my first performance ever so to get this award tonight is so surreal. Thank you so much.’

Dua Lipa triumphed in the best pop and R&B, while Billie Eilish won the international artist award for a second year running and Bruno Mars, Anderson.Paak and Silk Sonic won best international group.

All three artists couldn’t make tonight’s glamorous event, but each sent a special video message thanking their fans.

Little Simz picked up her first Brit award for best new artist, but it was her mum who stole the show in what was described as the most ‘wholesome’ moment.

‘Look at what you’ve done mum. I want to say to anyone who is watching at home, I am living proof you can do something extraordinary,’ the rapper said.

Rapper Dave won the award for best hip-hop, grime, and rap and just like Little Simz, the star’s mum was seen cheering her son on in the audience.

He said: ‘I went past the college on the way to the arena, and it feels like yesterday when I was at Richmond college.

‘All of my friends and family I love you so much. I know I’m a difficult person so I thank my friends for putting up with me.’

The Funky Friday lyricist also credited other performers within the category.

Other top moments from the night include the awkward moment Maya and Mo did spontaneous shots, while Drivers License singer Olivia simply sat there.

Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran, Dave, and Sam Fender, who also won best rock alternative, delivered phenomenal performances.

The Brit Awards is available to stream on ITV Hub.
