Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan has a message for body shamers.

The Irish star, 35, took to Twitter to make an impassioned plea to her 300k followers, begging them not to share their opinions on her body with her.

The Derry Girls star shared a mirror selfie, wearing a gorgeous floral print dress with an oversized white collar, as she laid her emotions bare.

Nicola began: ‘Hello! So just a thing- if you have an opinion about my body please, please don’t share it with me. Most people are being nice and not trying to be offensive but I am just one real life human being and it’s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions on how you look being sent directly to you every day.’

Despite understanding that she is in the public eye, Nicola still wants to make it clear how she feels about comments on her body.

The Netflix actress concluded: ‘If you have an opinion about me that’s ok, I understand I’m on TV and that people will have things to think and say but I beg you not to send it to me directly.’

Nicola turned off the replies to her tweets, but there was still an outpouring of love for her.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘In this house we Stan and protect Nicola Coughlan. The haters and concern trolls can get in the bin.’

Another added: ‘This sickens me to read this. Why are people so mean? @nicolacoughlan you’re beautiful inside and out. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I have so much love for you. Keep being your beautiful self.’

Fans also thanked Nicola for ‘being honest’ as they showered her with praise.

Nicola rose to fame in Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls and most recently starred as Penelope Featherington in period drama Bridgerton.

As the highly-anticipated season 2 of Bridgerton approaches, Nicola recently promised that love is ‘going to happen’ for her character.

The first season saw romance blossom between Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), which left fans wondering when Penelope would get her happily ever after.

While speaking to Elle UK, Nicola addressed the relationship that Penelope shares with Colin Bridgerton – played Luke Newton, 28, in the TV series – as their bond is known to develop romantically in the books.

Not one to beat around the bush, she promised that their steamy connection is ‘going to happen.’

‘We [she and Luke] used to joke about it, really inappropriate jokes, like, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we did this when we do it?” And then as time goes on it becomes more real. Now it’s not funny anymore! Everyone’s like, “You’re going to have to kiss Luke! On the lips!”’ she said.

When asked if she knows when their on-screen romance is going to blossom, Nicola revealed that she is indeed in the know.

‘I do. I do know. I’ve been told. Yeah,’ she said.

We can’t wait to see how things unfold when Bridgerton returns.
