Bridgerton fans ecstatic over ‘finally’ having gay romance in Queen Charlotte
Warning: spoilers ahead for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Fans couldn’t be happier to have witnessed the passionate relationship play out in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story between the Queen’s secretary Brimsley (Sam Clemmett) and the King’s secretary Reynolds (Freddie Dennis) during the early days of the royal couple’s reign.
If Netflix is taking suggestions for more spin-offs… perhaps a dedicated Brimsley and Reynolds love saga? We’d definitely be down.
In the new show, Golda Rosheuvel returns as the older version of the Queen, while India Amarteifio makes her debut as the teenage, newly-married Charlotte, opposite Corey Mylchreest as the charming, inexperienced King George III.
In the second episode, it’s revealed that Brimsley and Reynolds are secretly romantically involved with one another behind closed doors, a fact that they keep a secret from the rest of the Palace and society.
In the past, there was a point when Bridgerton fans thought that an LGBT romance was on the cards, after a trailer for a past season showed a brief glimpse of two men in an embrace.
However, while some originally thought one of the men could have ended up being Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) – due to insinuations that he might not have been straight – it turned out to be two minor characters who were barely featured, leaving many sorely disappointed by having their hopes built up while accusing Netflix of ‘queerbaiting’.
So to summarise, this has been a long time coming – almost two and a half years in fact – and fans are celebrating the exciting development.
‘Queen Charlotte is finally giving us the gays!!!’ one person tweeted enthusiastically, while another said that they’d ‘won’ by Brimsley being confirmed to be gay.
Someone else remarked: ‘Oh oh it’s taking a gay turn?!?!?? And I’m here for it!!!!’
For anyone who hasn’t made it past the second episode of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, we won’t give any further spoilers about how the story unfolds.
Nonetheless, rest assured that you won’t be disappointed… although you might shed a tear or two along the way.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is available to stream on Netflix.
