Back in 1988, Freddie Mercury had been diagnosed with HIV, but hadn’t made it public. Knowing he didn’t have the strength to continue touring after 1986’s Magic tour, Queen focused on working on new material together for what would become The Miracle album. The record features classics like I Want It All, but there was one number that the late singer composed as a tongue-in-cheek reflection on their career thus far.
The song in question is Was It All Worth It, the last track on The Miracle album. Brian May previously told Sounds: “We thought, my God, we’re really getting overblown here! And there’s an element of humour in there, in the lyrics, which is nice. It’s a kind of conscious comment on some of the stuff we’ve done, and we did laugh at ourselves. We enjoy it, we like painting those pictures. It’s fun, and it’s something peculiar to Queen.”
Now the fan favourite track is getting a brand new official music video to mark the release of The Miracle Collector’s Edition on Friday.
Fans can check out the countdown trailer below ahead of Was It All Worth It’s world premiere at 8am GMT on Friday, November 18th.
The video will features archive footage, photos and animation, challenging the most devoted Queen fans to spot every last Easter egg from the band’s incredible career.
Director Simon Lupton said: “From talking to people who were there when Was It All Worth It was originally recorded, the band had a great time creating this song in the studio. Animator Jake McBride and I also had a joyous experience creating this video over 30 years later and taking fans on a whistlestop tour through Queen’s incredible journey. We hope viewers enjoy spotting all the nods and references we’ve included.”

The new Queen boxset of The Miracle features six previously unheard songs from the album’s recording sessions. Face It Alone has been released as a single and other unheard tracks included are the likes of Dog With A Bone, I Guess We’re Falling Out and You Know You Belong To Me.
Alongside the demos and outtakes there are also behind-the-scenes recordings of Freddie, Brian, Roger and John Deacon bantering, debating and joking around the studio.
Queen The Miracle Collector’s Edition will be released on November 18 as an 8-Disc Book Set: Vinyl LP/5CD/DVD/Blu-ray and can be pre-ordered here.
