Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole would love to pay tribute to judge Len Goodman on the series, but doesn’t think he’ll be welcome.

The late ballroom dancer died aged 78 on April 22 this year from bone cancer while being cared for in a hospice Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

Len was one of the UK’s most successful TV personalities and exports, having been snapped up by the US version of Strictly,Dancing With The Stars, to head up their judging panel for the show’s launch in 2005.

Dancer Brendan, 47, appeared in 15 series of Strictly before announcing in January 2018 that his contract had not been renewed.

He famously won the first-ever series alongside BBC newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, and made two finals with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Lisa Snowdon.

However, despite being a favourite pro of the series, fans will remember Brendan frequently clashing with Craig Revel-Horwood, jumping to the defence of his partners when less than favourable critiques were dished out.

Although it’s been five years since his stint, he believes a group number involving ex-pros would be appropriate.

‘The nicest thing Strictly could do would be to do a really big group number maybe even with the ex pros to come back,’ he told The Mirror.

‘I’m not suggesting for myself, I’m not sure I’d be allowed in the building but to do some form of tribute.’

Brendan previously expressed his sadness over being dropped from the show, explaining at the time: ‘They made an editorial decision not to have me back on the show.’

He also said he was ‘in shock’ at the decision, and told Lorraine Kelly: ‘I’m quite emotional and a bit raw about it. I am very disappointed. It’s an editorial decision. I will never know the ins and outs.

‘I have had 15 incredible series on the show, I’m very proud of the whole show, they’re a great team.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year on BBC One.
