Brenda Edwards hosting special birthday event for late son Jamal Edwards
Brenda Edwards is hosting a special cookup to ‘celebrate the life’ of her late son Jamal Edwards on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
Edwards, who found fame after setting up the music platform SBTV in 2006, died on February 20 at the age of 31.
Loose Women presenter Brenda, 53, has planned the ‘mega’ event at Studio 338 in London for August 24.
She announced the joyous news on Instagram where she also shared a poster for the celebrations, which promises surprise guest performances.
‘Every year I have celebrated my baby’s birthday and this year will be no exception, it’s gonna be a very memorable day celebrating the life of Jamal!’ she penned.
‘For more information and to book tickets please see @sbtvonline see you there! Thanks very much’.
Tickets for the mega cookup are currently on sale for £10 on event brite.
‘The day will be filled with food, drinks, exclusive gaming area, 360 photobooth, live DJs, on-site tattoo artist,’ the event description reads.
‘Join us for this immersive experience in celebration of Jamal Edwards Birthday.’
Jamal was credited with helping to launch a number of artists careers, including the likes of Ed Sheeran, Dave and Jessie J.
He was also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a charity headed up by the Prince of Wales, and in 2014 was made an MBE for his services to music.
Earlier this month, a coroner ruled Jamal’s cause of death was cardiac arrest after taking cocaine.
His mother Brenda said in a statement read to the hearing: ‘Jamal was a beautiful and selfless person.
‘Since growing up with his family in Acton he made it his personal mission to open doors for others to walk through.
‘To help people through life, to love and to laugh. And most importantly, to just make people happy.’
She added: ‘Jamal helped so many, working tirelessly to give a platform to people. His charitable work stretched near and far, from working at homeless shelters to giving back to his roots in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
‘We are so proud of everything Jamal achieved over the course of his 31 years and how he impacted others’ lives. We miss him so much.’
