Boxing stars almost brawl at chaotic weigh-in

The bad blood between Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr’s camps has continued to fester after a brawl nearly broke out during a fiery weigh-in.

Haney and Kambosos will face off in a second world title match this year on Sunday, and both made weight ahead of the fight.

However, in chaotic scenes at Rod Laver Arena, the two fighters immediately stared each other down before engaging in some push-and-shove.

Camps of both Kambosos and Haney immediately rushed onto the stage to remonstrate and security was called to help de-escalate what was nearly an all-out brawl.

The fiery scenes left the commentators on hand, Warren Smith and boxing great Barry Michael, stunned.

“It got a little willing there and a bit out of control,” Smith said on Fox Sports’ coverage.

“It certainly got a bit heated there. It nearly got out of hand there,” Michael added.

“There’s every chance it’s going to be a war. It’ll be something else. There’s bad blood between the two of them.

“I think we’re gonna see serious fireworks.”

Even world-famous promoter Lou DiBella, who has seen thousands of weigh-ins, was taken aback by the ugly scenes.

“You don’t want to see that. It’s very easy to go from that to something dangerous,” DiBella said.

“There was nothing staged about that at all. That was real.

“That being said, this is a fight, a prize fight, and there’s a lot of emotion, a lot of adrenaline here.

“So it’s not shocking and ultimately no one got hurt, thank God.”

After needing to weigh himself twice in order to make weight prior to the pair’s first meeting back in June, Kambosos had no such issues this time around.

”No doubt. We put in the work. That’s a statement right there. We’ll make a statement tomorrow,” he said.

“I’m ripped and ready. I haven’t shown too much in this camp but I’m gonna show it all tomorrow.

“We are ready, and whatever he brings ain’t enough.”
