Boots slashes Advantage Card loyalty points – how it affects you
Love Boots and always remember to swipe your Advantage Card?
The Advantage Card loyalty scheme – which launched in 1997 and turned 25 back in 2022 – has switched things up a bit, with some new changes in effect from May 2023.
Members will still be able to rack up points to spend on purchases from the high street staple – including a range of health, haircare, make-up and skincare products.
But it’s worth knowing how the changes will impact your future accumulation of sought-after Advantage points, and if there’s any immediate benefit for you with the change.
Here’s how it’ll affect you.
How will Boots’ new Advantage Card changes affect you?
From now (May 2023) onwards, how you earn points with Boots will change slightly.
Instead of earning 4p worth of points (four points) per £1 spent, you’ll now earn 3p worth of points (three points) per £1 spent.
This won’t affect any points you earned before the switch happened, though – just the points earned going forward.
Happily, points can still be earned in-store, online or via the Boots app.
And Advantage Card holders will now get 10% off thousands of products in Boots own-brand range.
Discounts will be applied automatically when you shop in-store and scan your Advantage Card, or when you shop online with your Advantage Card linked to your Boots account.
Sadly, this doesn’t include No7 or Soap & Glory beauty products, according to the Boots app’s T&Cs.
Price Advantage offers – which give card holders money off selected products, including non-Boots brands – are set to continue, as are time-sensitive points events, which can boost your points earnings.
So, why all this change?
On its app, Boots explains of the new system: ‘We have responded to feedback from our customers on how they would like to shop and get great value from Boots.
‘We understand that more customers want access to instant savings, so offering 10% off our Boots own-brand range will give even more opportunity to save.
‘We understand that many customers still love saving up their points for big purchases in the future, so will continue to offer 3p worth of points for every £1 spent at Boots.’
Those who are members of various supermarket loyalty schemes will recognise this move.
Co-op recently launched discounts for those signed up to Co-Op Membership, while Tesco Clubcard has been offering exclusive Clubcard Prices for a while now, and is also set to reduce voucher value.
Sainsbury’s Nectar Prices also offers Nectar Card holders lower prices on select items.
