Boffin faces ruin for Reliant Robin version of Back To The Future DeLorean
AN INVENTOR who recreated the Back To The Future DeLorean out of a Reliant Robin faces ruin after losing a court fight.
Benjamin Granger, 40, was sued by US-based DeLorean Motor Company over his plans to sell the gull-winged three-wheelers for £20,000 each.
The High Court’s intellectual property court ruled against him for “trademark infringement and passing off”.
It gave him 14 days to pay legal costs, capped at £20,000, and banned him from using the DeLorean name or the DMC badge.
Dad-of-three Granger, of Newquay, Cornwall, said: “The court has no sense of humour.
“How could anyone confuse a real DeLorean for mine? It’s missing a bloody wheel.”
“I wanted to inspire people to create something amazing and use their artistic expression.
“At every motor show I’ve been to, people have told me it’s hilarious.”
He took inspiration from his father, who died in 2005, saying “If my father was still here he’d tell me to keep going. I have nothing left to lose.”
