Body language expert claims to spot Kate ‘patting her husband’s bum’

The Prince and Princess of Wales, or the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay as they are known in Scotland, attended St Giles’s Cathedral yesterday for a royal celebration of the King and Queen.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Coronation was being celebrated at a Service of Thanksgiving in Edinburgh with Kate and William being the sole royals in attendance.

At some points, the couple who have been married for 12 years exchanged some strong signals of PDA (public displays of affection), according to a body language expert.

Judi James exclusively told Express.co.uk: “Kate and William looked utterly professional although there were moments when their signature traits of chatting and tactile behaviour emerged.”

Kate was seen laying her hand on William’s lower back at one point, which was not the first time this happened in public.

At the BAFTA Awards in February, the Princess did the same thing in front of the cameras as she walked side-by-side with her husband.

Judi claimed: “We’ve seen Kate patting her husband’s bum previously but possibly not while they are in such very formal outfits.

“It seems to be a loving tie-sign for Kate, showing support and almost maternal reassurance and attention as well as being a truncated gesture of intimate affection.”

For yesterday’s appearance, Kate wore a blue Catherine Walker coatdress which she wore in 2022 at the Commonwealth Day Service and on Easter Sunday earlier this year.

The Princess wore a bespoke blue Philip Treacy hat and a pair of £445 Emmy London heels to complete her monochrome outfit.

For jewellery, Kate donned a £23,000 necklace which she previously wore at the funerals of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

This was an apt choice, given that the choker previously belonged to the late Queen.

As she often does, Kate paid tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana by wearing her earrings.

She chose the Collingwood pearl drop earrings which feature a round diamond stud suspended from an additional round diamond and a bell cap set with three more rows of small diamonds.

The bell caps each contain a lovely pearl drop. Diana began wearing the earrings before she was Princess of Wales.

They were a gift from Collingwood, a jewellery firm that was a favourite of the Spencer family.

Kate first wore these earrings along with Diana’s Lover’s Knot Tiara in July 2017 for a banquet at Buckingham Palace during the Spanish state visit.
