Blues put new system to the test after copping charges

NSW players Stephen Crichton and Daniel Tupou have escaped bans after both were charged by the match review committee, following incidents in the State of Origin opener.

Billy Slater’s first game as Maroons coach produced an upset victory over NSW in Sydney, with Queensland holding on for a 16-10 victory, amid a thrilling finish.

Blues debutant Crichton was placed on report for a lifting tackle on Cameron Munster in the second half, with the 21-year-old hit with a grade one dangerous throw.

With the NRL’s new edict widening the grading system for representative games to avoid suspensions during the NRL season, Crichton will be docked seven per cent of his match fee as punishment, which comes to $1050.

If he fights the charge and loses he will be docked 10 per cent ($1500), but will be available for Penrith’s round 14 clash against the Knights.

Tupou was cited for dangerous contact over an incident on Patrick Carrigan in the second half and will be fined seven per cent of his match fee and is free to line up for the Roosters against Melbourne on the weekend.
