Blue Rodeo Drive: Toronto country-rock act gets Toronto street named after them

TORONTO – Almost a decade after the idea was floated by Toronto’s city council, the prolific country-rock band Blue Rodeo is getting a local street named after them.

Mayor John Tory joined members of theJuno-winning band on Tuesday morning to officially name a Toronto street in Blue Rodeo’s honour and reveal a new street sign.

Blue Rodeo Drive is north of Gerrard Street East and west of Broadview Avenue, near the band’s studio space.

Since forming in 1984, Blue Rodeo has become one of Canada’s most prominent bands, releasing 16 studio albums that have sold more than four million copies. Some of their most popular songs include “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet,” “5 Days in May,” “Try” and “Til I Am Myself Again.”

A draft bylaw was enacted by city council for the naming of Blue Rodeo Drive in 2013.

The street adds to Blue Rodeo’s many accolades, which include winning 11 Juno Awards, a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2009 and being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2012.

The band was presented with the key to their hometown in 2001.
