Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth Coming From Annapurna

The Annapurna Interactive showcase ended with a new game announcement, and the debut of its first internally developed game. Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth is a new game set in the Blade Runner universe, and the moody trailer certainly evoked the feeling of the sci-fi franchise.

The trailer didn’t shed much light on gameplay, but it gave us a taste of how the new game will capture the tone and spirit of the films. Given the name, it’s possible the story will fall between the original 1982 film–which was set in a futuristic 2019–and the more recent Blade Runner 2049, set decades later. A Steam page for 2033 is now live.

Blade Runner received a game adaptation in 1997, as a point-and-click adventure game. That put you in the role of a titular Blade Runner, the special agents assigned to hunt down and retire (i.e. kill) Replicants–artificial humans who have gone rogue. It was mostly puzzle-based and included administering Voight-Kampff tests, the in-universe polygraph-like interrogation that proves someone is an authentic human. The Blade Runner 2033 trailer hinted that this new game will also involve Voight-Kampff tests.
