Black Panther star fought ‘tooth and nail’ with Chadwick Boseman ov…

In just under a month the sequel to Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, will hit cinemas. While there have been dozens of Marvel Cinematic Universe sequels over the past decade, none have had such an emotional weight behind them as Black Panther 2, all because of the death of Chadwick Boseman. While promoting the upcoming movie, Nakia star Lupita Nyong’o looked back on getting mad at the American actor during the press tour of the first movie.

Chadwick lost his battle against colon cancer on August 28, 2020. But not before making a mark on the Marvel franchise in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.

Back in 2018, however, while he was promoting the billion-dollar solo movie, Black Panther, Lupita recalled becoming frustrated with one of his decisions.

“There were moments when Chadwick said no to me,” she said in a new interview. “And I was not happy with him.”

She explained that she fought “tooth and nail” to change his mind, but he quietly, respectfully declined her requests.

Lupita, who is of Kenyan descent, asked Chadwick to go to South Africa with her to promote Black Panther back in 2018. She was already attending with Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye in the series.

She explained: “I felt it was important to have him on the continent, as an African-American coming to South Africa. I thought that was a potent symbol.”

Much to her frustration: “He wouldn’t go,” Lupita said. “Now, I understand he was battling cancer and probably had medical reasons.”

Lupita confessed she “tried everything” to get him to hop on a plane with her and Danai, to no avail. (Via The Hollywood Reporter)

Lupita was told the tragic news over text from fellow Hollywood star, Viola Davis.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said, before later adding: “He had an aura. He was the leader, and we were all good with it.”

Lupita is reprising her role as Nakia in the upcoming superhero sequel, and she is also rumoured to be under the mask of the new-and-improved Black Panther.

When quizzed over if she is the new hero behind the mask, she replied: “If I told you that, I might as well just … swim into the ocean and never be seen again.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits cinemas on November 11.
