BJP to hit streets against MVA’s ‘inability’ to secure MP-like quota for OBCs
“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has not paid any attention to OBC quota. The Maharashtra government has not been able to do what has been done by MP. The MP government has submitted the empirical data to justify political quota for OBCs and hence they have been given the nod by the SC. The Maharashtra government has killed the OBC reservation,” said former CM Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur. Calling the state government incompetent, he said those responsible should tender their resignations.
The BJP leader said that the party would soon start agitations against the state government on the issue. Maharashtra has around 38% OBCs, who are wooed by parties like the BJP, NCP and Congress.
Maharashtra OBC leader and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said the government would follow MP’s example. “The SC had rejected the MP move to delay the local body polls like us. However, they have submitted their OBC commission report which has been accepted by the SC. Similarly, we would also give such a report within a month to the SC and get a similar order as MP got,” he said.
His party colleague Jitendra Awhad claimed that the relief for MP would also benefit Maharashtra. “If MP has got relief, then Maharashtra would also benefit. How can there be two different decisions for two states in a country,” Awhad wanted to know.
