Bittersweet restaurant property in West Wash Park listed for sale or lease

The West Wash Park building currently occupied by the restaurant Bittersweet Artisan Cuisine is being advertised for sale or lease.

The owner of the 500 E. Alameda Ave. property is asking $1.95 million, or $45 to $50 per square foot for a lease deal, according to a Unique Properties marketing brochure.

The property is advertised as a turnkey restaurant, meaning an operator could take over the space without needing to build it out. It also means that Bittersweet would no longer be operating if a deal closes.

Bittersweet has operated in the nearly 2,000-square-foot building since 2010. The restaurant, operated by husband and wife Olav Peterson and Melissa Severson, offers a seasonal four-course menu with spring options ranging from $16 to $48, according to its website.

According to city records, Sidney J. Severson and Mona R. Severson bought the property in 2010 for $607,000 before transferring it to East Alameda LLC.

It’s unclear if the property owners and Bittersweet co-owner Melissa Severson are related. She and Peterson could not be reached for comment. A broker marketing the property declined to comment.
