Before her debut in the 2008 movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma worked as a model and auditioned for various films. As she celebrates her 35th birthday, let’s take a look back at one of her early audition tapes for the acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani film 3 Idiots, which starred Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor, and Boman Irani in significant roles.
While shooting for PK, Anushka Sharma shared her audition tape with director Rajkumar Hirani and actor Aamir Khan. The video began with Anushka addressing the camera and teasing that she had a big secret to reveal. She went on to reveal that she had auditioned for the lead role in 3 Idiots in 2007.

In the clip, Rajkumar Hirani can be heard saying, “Anushka auditioned for 3 Idiots? No she didn’t?” Afterwards, Anushka presented her audition video to both Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan on the set of PK, which left them both amazed. In the video, Anushka recited Gracy Singh’s famous dialogue from the climax of Munna Bhai MBBS, where she confronts Boman Irani’s character after he expels Sanjay Dutt’s character from medical college.
Upon watching the audition video, Aamir and Rajkumar were in disbelief while Anushka felt embarrassed and hid her face. Aamir praised her for delivering an emotional scene without glycerin and jokingly criticised the director for not casting her in the film. They found the coincidence amusing and asked the team to film their reactions.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Anushka Sharma is gearing up to return to the screen with the biopic Chakda Xpress, where she portrays the Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
